Michigan football has embodied a smashmouth style of the game so far this season, but the Wolverines are without top running back Blake Corum as they chase their first College Football Playoff championship.
Corum underwent surgery for a knee injury he suffered against Illinois on Nov. 19 and re-aggravated against Ohio State. The star running back took two carries in the second half of the Illinois game and he got two more against Ohio State, but he came up lame against the Buckeyes and missed the remainder of the game.
Corum was an integral part of Michigan’s success this year. He was second in the Big Ten with 18 rushing touchdowns, trailing only Mohamed Ibrahim of Minnesota. He was also third in the Big Ten in rushing yards at 1,463 and fifth in average at 5.9 yards per carry.
As good as Corum has been, Michigan is equipped to go on without him thanks to a deep running back depth chart led by Donovan Edwards.
